Gameplay Main article: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei/Gameplay On December 16, 2022, it was announced that ownership of the game transferred from D-Techno to Mynet Games. The Heisei Chapter story in Part 2 was inspired by the film Contagion, however it was rewritten due to the similarities to the COVID-19 pandemic. Part 3 is also split into Showa and Heisei portions. Part 2 began with Chapter 9, releasing on Mand is split into Showa (1983) and Heisei (1993) portions. The story is currently split into 3 parts, with Part 1 consisting of Chapters 1 through 8. Kazuho meets Miyuki Akasaka and Nao Houtani, other girls from 1993 with their own goals, and joins with them to uncover the mysteries surrounding this past Hinamizawa. After visiting Hinamizawa in 1993, she meets the goddess Tamurahime no Mikoto who sends her back in time to 1983 to battle monsters called Tsukuyami.
